Marvin is a real winner.

Marvin | 18 × 24 in. | Oil on panel

The studio had a significant time without heat this month. Our boiler, after years of warming our old adobe home against the high desert chill, had finally given up the ghost. The sudden loss of something we had taken for granted (although small within the grand scheme) seemed timely as the chaos and joy of 2024 comes to a close. I’m not one for resolutions, but I am guilty of reflection. I have a lot to be thankful for…

Portrait Society of America - I’m truly honored to have received First Place in the 2024 Portrait Society of America: Commissioned Portrait Competition for my portrait of Marvin. A heartfelt thank you to the judges for this recognition, especially among such an incredibly talented group of artists.

A special thanks to Teresa for the commission, and to Marvin for being such a charismatic and patient subject.

Azúcar de Sandía | 30 × 30 in. | Oil on oil paper on panel

On Display - Azcúar de Sandía is hanging high now through the holidays in the beautiful Sage Valley Pottery showroom in the village of Corrales.

Wet Paint - There’s some new work on the site, mostly plein air and studio landscapes from along the Rio Grande river valley this fall. Some are still available and will be listed in the store soon, but if you’re curious about the availability of these (or anything you see on the site) send me a note.

Newsletters - This is the first in a (hopefully) occasional note I’ll send out to share what’s happening in the studio. If you’re getting this, you’ve been generous enough to share your info with me in some way or another. Or you’re a friend/family member and I’ve added you to the subscriber list myself. Either way, I appreciate you and your support. If you’re the former and you don’t wish to receive these emails, just let me know. If you’re the latter, you can’t leave. Ever.

The heat is back on over here, and the gloves are off.

Happy New Year!
